Ex State TT champ J Saikia no more

GUWAHATI, Dec 14 - Former State table tennis champion Dr Jayanta Saikia passed away at his Ambikagirinagar residence here this morning.

Dr Saikia (55) was an associate professor, College of Veterinary Science, Khanapara. He had done his PhD from Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat and prior to that studied at the Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana from where he completed his post graduation.

He was a leading TT player of the State during 1971 to 1978. He was the State champion in 1976 held at Golaghat and represented the State team on several occasions. He also represented the Punjab team in the national championship while studying there.

He also played a vital role in organising the game in the State. Dr Saikia was a former joint secretary of the Assam Table Tennis Association (ATTA).

He leaves behind his parents, wife and two sons.

His last rites will be performed at the Nabagrah crematorium tomorrow at 12 noon.

The ATTA president Rokibul Hussain, secretary Tridib Duvarah and all the members condoled the untimely demise of Dr Saikia. In the condolence message Duvarah said Dr Saikia�s death was a great loss for State TT.
