Ex-MP NR Choudhuree passes away

BADARPUR, Jan 16 � Former Rajya Sabha MP, veteran politician, social worker, cultural and sports personality of Barak Valley, Nripati Ranjan Choudhuree, passed away on Monday last at his own residence at Karimganj Mission Road after suffering for a long time from various ailments. He was 75.

He leaves behind his wife, one son and a daughter and a host of relatives and well-wishers.

Immediately after spread of the news of his death all sections of people thronged his residence from Tuesday morning to pay their last respect to him.

A long funeral procession carrying his body in a �Swarga Rath� vehicle was taken out in Karimganj town where artists, litterateurs, journalists, teachers, students, political leaders, eminent citizens of the town, intellectuals and several others took part. The body of late Choudhuree was taken first to the Karimganj Congress office, where the district Congress leaders paid their last respect to him. The funeral procession also moved through various roads of the town for paying the last respect to him by various institutions and organisations like Karimganj DSA, Barak-Banga, Karimganj Book Fair, Karimganj Law College, Red Cross Society, BEd College, Babyland High School, Assam High School teachers� office, etc.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has expressed his deep shock over the demise of NR Choudhuree. On behalf of Chief Minister, Karimganj ADC MA Laskar paid last respect to late Choudhuree. Excise Minister Gautam Roy has also expressed shock over the death of Choudhuree.

Late Choudhuree was elected as a Rajya Sabha MP from Assam in the year 1972, and he continued his term upto 1978. He was loved and respected by the people of entire Barak Valley.
