GUWAHATI, Dec 15 - Former minister of cultural affairs Kumar Dipak Das today demanded an end to the ongoing controversy over All India Congress Committee (AICC) vice-president Rahul Gandhis visit to Barpeta Sattra.

The controversy over the issue has been created only to affect the age-old communal harmony and peace of the State, Das, also a former Rajya Sabha MP, said in a statement here.

Alleging that both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress are indulging in such politics which are detrimental to the interest of the States people, Das said that both these national political parties should desist from dragging the sattra institutions of the State to their nasty political invectives.

He also cautioned the forces that are trying to distinguish between the illegal migrants on communal lines and demanded urgent steps to free the sattra land from encroachment.
