Ex gratia to martyr�s widow

JORHAT, Nov 2 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday visited the residence of a martyred soldier of the Indian Army, Padam Bahadur Shrestha at Borpathar under Dhansiri subdivision (Civil) of Golaghat district and handed over a cheque of Rs 20 lakh to his wife.

It may be mentioned here that Shrestha, a Havildar of Indian Army�s 3/9 Gorkha Rifles, was killed in cross-border firing by Pakistani Army at the Line of Control in Tangdhar sector of Kupwara district in North Kashmir on October 20.

A Golaghat district administration source stated that the Chief Minister offered floral tributes at Shreshtha�s portrait at the soldier�s residence and offered his condolences to the bereaved family members.

�His (Shrestha�s) sacrifice will not go in vain as it was a glowing act of patriotism and selfless service for the security of the country,� the Chief Minister said. Sonowal was accompanied by Agriculture Minister Atul Bora.
