Ex-DHD cadres reiterate demand for Dima Raji state

By Correspondent

HAFLONG, Nov 7 - The Dima Halam Daogah (DHD), a former extremist group that laid down arms a few years back and set up a reformed group under the name of Halali Progressive Welfare Society under the presidentship of Dilip Nunisa, has reiterated the demand for a separate state of Dima Raji.

A general meeting of former cadres of the DHD held at Tularamraji on Wednesday unanimously resolved to relaunch the long standing demand for the creation of a separate Dima Raji state within the Indian Union and to implement the Memorandum of Settlement (MoS).

The meeting demanded formation of a Barman Hojai Development Council, and cancellation of the bamboo park project from the MoS special economic package, stating that it was nothing but wastage of funds. The meeting also demanded construction of a cultural complex at Maibang like Shilpgram and Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati, from the same economic package.

The previous body of the Halali Progressive Welfare Society was reshuffled and former DHD chairman Dilip Nunisa was elected as president of the society.

The meeting urged upon the Governments of India and Assam to immediately arrange for the implementation of the MoS for the greater interest of peace and development in the region.

The new society with a 10-member central committee has Subir Bhattacharjee as vice president, Dangringdao Dimasa as general secretary, Raolish Kemprai as assistant general secretary, Bishnu Neopane as media cell in-charge, and Thaisodao Thaosen as treasurer.

Nunisa, talking to the media, expressed concern over the non-implementation of the MoS even after several years of signing it. We will be meeting the Union Home Minister very soon with regards to implementation of the MoS. Our democratic movement for Dima Raji and other demands will continue, he said.
