Ex-Cottonians� resolve

GUWAHATI, April 5 � Ex-students of the Cotton College today announced their resolve to oppose any move to downgrade the centurion college in the name of upgrading it.

This view, which dominated the proceedings of the �Cotton College Alumni Meet 2015� on its second day today, became the focal point during the open and interactive sessions of the meet. The meet was attended by ex-Cottonians from all over the country and abroad.

The meet started with a cultural programme yesterday evening. It was inaugurated by noted musician Jitu Sarma of the famous Jitu-Tapan musician duo. Many past and present Cottonians performed in the cultural programme.

Today�s programme started with the presentation of the song �Cotton College� written and set to tune by Dr Bhupen Hazarika, also an ex-Cottonian, during the centenary celebration of the college in 2001.

Today�s programme was inaugurated by 92-year-old ex-Cottonian Kamal (Bhaimon) Hazarika. Association general secretary Dr Satyendra Kumar Choudhury regretted that the Association was not active up to the desired level. The Association was against any move to downgrade the centurion college, he said.

Principal Cotton College Dr Nirada Devi also appealed to the ex-Cottonians to work for development of the college.

It was followed by an interactive session conducted by Anupjyoti Choudhury. Today�s cultural programme was inaugurated by Col Monoranjan Goswami.
