Ex-Chirang DC arrested in graft case

GUWAHATI, Aug 24 - Retired ACS officer and former Deputy Commissioner of Chirang Binod Kumar Deka was today arrested by anti-corruption sleuths on charges of taking bribe to sanction a bill.

An official source said one Champa Basumatary of Borbari in Guwahati had lodged an FIR with the anti-corruption branch police station on September last year alleging that when Deka was the Chirang DC, he had received an amount of Rs 30,000 as bribe against the sanction of bill for a work order.

In support of her allegation, Basumatary had given a video footage.

�Investigation has been carried out as per the FIR and from the material evidence and expert reports, prima facie the charges levelled against Deka have been found to be true. Hence Deka was arrested today and kept in ACB PS for further follow-up action. He shall be produced before special court tomorrow,� the source said.
