Ex-bureaucrat Sabbir Hussain no more

GUWAHATI, March 24 - Sabbir Hussain, retired Commissioner, Lower Assam Division, passed away at his residence here in the wee hours today. He suffered a cardiac arrest and was 62.

An IAS officer, Hussain had retired on December 31, 2015, after a long tenure in the Assam government in different capacities.

Born in Dibrugarh in 1954, Hussain was a brilliant student and took his MSc degree from Gauhati University in 1975, followed by his M Phil from Delhi University. He joined the Assam Civil Service in 1977. He was involved in journalism as well and was editor of a literary magazine Jnandeep in 1976. Sofia Publication, run by Hussain published several invaluable books including Biswar Shrestha Galpa Sankalan.

He leaves behind his wife, a daughter and a son, besides a host of relatives.

Several senior citizens, former Chief Secretary PP Verma and other bureaucrats have condoled his death.
