Eviction at Panidihing Reserve

By CORRESPONDENT

SIVASAGAR, Feb 20 The Panidihing Reserve Forest which is spread over 33.9 square kilometres in Demow circle in Sivasagar district, has been illegally occupied by people professing different occupations since later 1970s.

After complaints for more than three decades by nature lovers and responsible citizens, Sivasagar forest department personnel led by Divisional Forest Officer Ranjan Das with the help of Demow police evicted the unauthorised occupations on February 17.

It is significant that the encroachers have damaged the ecology of the reserve forest which is the only bird sanctuary in the district since 1996.

The Sivasagar district unit of Natures Becon and other nature lovers have appreciated the action of the forest department.
