Every Indian State should update its NRC: Mukhi

By Correspondent

DHUBRI, July 20 - Speaking on the NRC upgradation process of the State, Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi on his maiden visit to Dhubri said that to identify the actual number of foreigners in the country, every Indian State should undertake the NRC upgradation process.

While addressing mediapersons at the Deputy Commissioners conference hall during his two-day visit to the district, the Governor expressing his satisfaction on the NRC upgradation process said that the updating the National Register of Citizens (NRC) only in Assam will not solve the foreigners problem of the country.

While we are updating the NRC here in Assam, infiltrators may run away to other States and live as citizens of India, like they were living in Assam, Mukhi said and stressed that to identify the actual number of foreigners in the nation, the NRC upgradation process should be carried out in every State of the nation.

The Governor also said that identifying the number of foreigners is more important than deporting them to the country of origin. If the number of foreigners are identified, then the government and the people will come to know who is not an Indian. And by doing that we can stop these people from taking facilities enjoyed by Indians in various sectors.

He also said that after identification of foreigners, they may stay in the nation with work permits and their right to vote may be taken away. These foreigners are now enjoying equal facilities like genuine Indian citizens. First the foreigners need to be detected, then their fate will be decided.
