Event to promote cycling

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Jan 11 - As part of its efforts to promote and popularise cycling in the city, Everything Outdoor North East is organising the third Guwahati Cyclothon on January 27.

This time the event will be bigger with around 300 participants from across the State. This is a positive trend that proves awareness about cycling is expanding, Jubee Baruwa said on behalf of the organisers.

The cyclothon will kick off from the Brindavan Garden on RG Baruah Road. The categories for the event include Fun ride (15km), Regular zone (30km) and Pro zone (60km).

It is possible to take at least short bicycle rides rather than car or bike rides in the city for different purposes every now and then. Bicycle is an eco-friendly mode of transportation and is greatly beneficial to health. Cycling also minimises road traffic and solves parking issues in the city. Even though we do not have cycling tracks in the city as yet, still, till that happens, we can come out of our houses with our cycles, Jubee said.

She added that the concept of Go Eco, Go Cycling was aimed at creating awareness about cycling among children, youths and community members and expose them to a completely new concept of recreation that involves both physical and mental wellness.
