Event on freedom fighters of North East

GUWAHATI, Aug 13 - In the run-up to the 73rd Independence Day, Regional Outreach Bureau, Guwahati, under the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, is organising a two-day Integrated Communication & Outreach Programme on the premises of the Assam Khadi and Village Industries Board, Chandmari here from today.

LR Vishwanath, Director General, North East Zone, Ministry of I&B, informed media persons at a press conference convened today at the office of Director General, NE Zone, Chandmari.

Vishwanath briefed the media about the mega event, which includes a photo exhibition on the contribution of freedom fighters of the North East. Some panels on the achievements of 50 days of the Union government and its flagship schemes will also be displayed in the exhibition.

Tomorrow, artistes of Regional Outreach Bureau, Guwahati, will perform live art performances on freedom movements in a cultural extravaganza.

Vishwanath added that there is now a change in the publicity approach and the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting is focusing on Integrated Communication & Outreach Programmes to reach out to the people. All the publicity programmes will be in integrated manner � exhibition, filed publicity and programmes of song and drama division in one event � to make it more effective.

Ahmed Muyeen Farooqi, Deputy Director, ROB, Guwahati, informed that renowned freedom fighter of Assam, Padma Shri awardee Hema Bharali will grace the occasion tomorrow.

As part of the event, ROB, Guwahati is also organising various activities including art competitions among school children, public announcement, etc, during this event. A pre-publicity programme at the Dighalipukuri war memorial was held today to make people aware about the struggle of freedom fighters.

The Tricolour will be unfurled in the office premises on August 15, followed by Prabhat Pheri, he added.
