Event on classical, folk arts at Shilpgram

GUWAHATI, Feb 14 - The North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC), in collaboration with the Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, Ministry of Culture, Government of India, is organising a programme titled �Shrutimala � Bridging Classical and Folk Arts�, at the NEZCC, Shilpgram, Panjabari, at 5.30 pm tomorrow.

Under the theme �Bridging Classical and Folk Arts� the programme will showcase classical and folk arts presentation by various renowned artistes of Assam.

A classical performance featuring Tarun Ch Kalita on sarod, Bhaskarjyoti Ojha on tabla and khol, Pankaj Sharma on santoor, Prasanta Choudhury on sarinda, Paban Rabha on flute, G Kalita on khol and percussion, Kanak Medhi on dotara, Dwipendra Sarma on violin and Madhab Pathak on percussion will also be part of the event.

Other highlights of the programme are traditional folk dances Devadasi Nritya and Bhortal Nritya under direction of Ananya Talukdar, which will be followed by an ensemble of folk and classical music by Luit Konwar Rudra Borua State College of Music, Assam, and other well-known artistes of Guwahati will perform in the event.

Veteran social worker and former Principal of Barpeta Bidyapeeth Higher Secondary School, Satya Krishna Mishra, has consented to grace the occasion as the chief guest in the programme, a press release stated.
