Ethnic food fest gets under way

GUWAHATI, March 10 � A two-day ethnic food festival and cultural evening got under way at the Shilpgram under the aegis of the Tai Ahom Unnayan Parishad today.

Assam Assembly Speaker Pranab Gogoi formally inaugurated the event at a function this morning.

A number of ethnic communities including Tai-Ahom, Rabha, Bodo, Karbi, Naga, Khasi, Deuri and Tiwa are showcasing a wide array of traditional delicacies at the festival.

The occasion will also feature completions on diverse home-made ethnic delicacies on March 11.

Scholar Dr Jogendra Nath Phukan and Hemoprabha Saikia were among the dignitaries present at the inaugural function.

The inaugural day�s programme included a seminar on �Ethnic food and its benefits� in which a number of experts including Dr Mukti Prasad Gogoi, Dr Gunaram Khanikar, Jyoti Das, Dr Sunil Kumar Saikia and Dr Padmeswar Gogoi took part.
