Erosion turns serious in South Salmara-Mankachar

HATSINGIMARI, July 19 � While the people of South Salmara-Mankachar subdivision of Dhubri are struggling to lead normal lives after the devastating flood, another disaster, i.e. erosion by the Brahmaputra has taken a serious turn in some places of the subdivision. As the level of floodwater is coming down, the river bank is losing large chunks of land due to erosion.

Presently the erosion of the river Brahmaputra is going on in more than fifteen village in the subdivision. Under South Salmara revenue circle the devastating erosion is continuing in Fakirganj, Birsingh, Patakata, Hazirhat and Akenderchar villages. On the other hand, under Mankachar revenue circle the villages like Sukchar, Digirchar, Telipara, Berabhanga, Kathdanga etc are affected by the erosion of the river Brahmaputra.

Moreover, the villages under Banskata GP namely Hazipara, Gendergaon, Kadamtoli and Baladmara, Sekadoba, Bhalukmari and Dakurbhita Chitli under Fakirganj GP have been totally eroded and thousands of people rendered homeless. In the mean time, three schools and the embankment between Shimlakandi and Solairteok have been eroded.
