Erosion turns serious at Saikhowa

DOOMDOOMA, Sept 15 - The erosion of the river Brahmaputra has taken a serious turn in Saikhowa area. A delegation of Dibrugarh-Tinsukia Zila Baan Aru Gorakhohoniya Pratirodh Sangram Mancha led by its president Binod Kedia and secretary Prakash Rai visited the erosion-affected Hatighuli, Bagaribari, Bhajani areas of Saikhowa and expressed serious concern over the high intensity of erosion of the mighty Brahmaputra.

At Hatighuli, a large tract of land where the Namami Brahmaputra Festival was held this year was submerged in the river. At Bagaribari and Bhajani too, large tracts of land were submerged in the river.

The delegation urged the State Government to take some urgent and effective measures to check this erosion. It decided to inform the matter immediately to the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Water Resource Minister Keshab Mahanta and the Deputy Commissioner of Tinsukia District Oinam Charan Kumar Singh through memorandums.
