Erosion threatens to wash away vital road

By Correspondent

PATACHARKUCHI, Sept 28 The Kaldia river is posing a serious threat to the Patacharkuchi-Bairagi-Kanimara PWD Road at Barnalikuchi village near the pump house of the Irrigation department. Massive erosion is on in that area since a fePw months back.

The incessant rains of the past few days led to the water level of Kaldia rising alarmingly and the erosion has also started to increase. At that portion, the river was earlier flowing nearly 40 feet away from the road but now it is hardly 10 feet away and if this continues there is a serious chance of that a portion of the road will be washed away leading to serious problems for the commuters of a large area and for agricultural lands too. The road is considered a vital one for communication with Patacharkuchi and was repaired a few years back. The portion is covered with bamboo groves which were playing a protective role but the water has already washed away some of the groves. The erosion is now proceeding towards the road.

Meanwhile, erosion ia also threatening to wash away the area in between Bakapara and Tangarkur, where though some protective measures were taken up a few years back but the condition has remained the same. People of the locality fear that if urgent measure are not taken, the river may create havoc at any moment resulting in irrepairable losses for the inhabitants and their paddy fields. The people have demanded early steps from the authorities and the public representatives in this regard.
