Erosion takes serious turn at Mayong

MORIGAON, July 9 � The erosion by river Brahmaputra in Bhuragaon and Mayong revenue circles in Morigaon district has taken a serious turn affecting more than 200 families in the riverine areas.

According to official sources, heavy erosion was reported from Nathgaon, Jengpori and Baralimari villages in the last two weeks rendering 100 families homeless. The affected people are taking shelter on the embankment and in other highland areas.

On the otherhand, around 50,000 people of 48 revenue villages under Mayong revenue circle were affected in the second wave of floods. The whole Pakaria mouza under the revenue circle was under flood water. More than 1,700 hectares of the croplands were damaged by the flood.

Rakesh Kumar, DC, Morigaon along with the officials of the Water Resources Department visited the erosion-hit Bhuragaon area on July 7 and chalk-out some schemes to curb erosion.
