By Correspondent

NALBARI, July 9 Massive erosion caused by the Pagladia river at Pub-Hanapara village under Barkshetri revenue circle in Nalbari district has posed serious threat to about 20 families residing in the area. Some families of the village have even changed their shelter three-four times to get relief from erosion.

The erosion of the river has already damage a portion of the only mosque of the village. It also damaged a primary school of the village. A 60-year-old woman Jaharun Bibi told this correspondent that her family has changed their shelter four times only due to the erosion by the Pagladia river.

A ring bund constructed by the Barkshetri Development Block under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in 2009 was also washed away by the erosion of the river. About 200 metres of the ring bund has already been eroded by the river.

The poor villagers have demanded the concern authority to take immediate anti-erosion measures at the erosion site.
