DIBRUGARH, April 26 - The Equestrian Federation of Assam is organising a Regional Equestrian League (REL) and Dibrugarh Horse Show from April 28 to 30.

The Regional Equestrian league is being hosted with the twin objective of qualifying the junior and young riders of the region for the National Championships and also to map and build a talent pool for representing Assam and other North Eastern states in future events. While the REL events will be confined to junior riders, the senior riders/participants of the region drawn from Assam Rifles, Assam Police, Manipur Equestrian Association, ITBP, and Equestrian Federation of Assam will be participating in all three major equestrian disciplines like Dressage, Jumping and Tent Pegging. Events such as Hacks and Gymkhana/Mounted sports have also been included to widen the participating base.

Dibrugarh has hosted National and International Equestrian events in the past; it is for the first time that riders from the region in such large numbers will be participating. According to Dr Nazrana Ahmed, secretary general of the Equestrian Federation of Assam, hosting of such RELs across the different states of the North East will provide the much needed competition opportunity which is vital for the development of the sport in the region.
