EPIC cards record high coverage in Arunachal

ITANAGAR, Jan 25 � In a remarkable feat, four districts in Arunachal Pradesh have recorded cent per cent coverage of EPIC cards while the coverage in remaining 12 districts is above 95 per cent.

The districts namely Tawang, Upper Siang, Dibang Valley and Lower Dibang Valley have 100 per cent coverage of EPIC while out of total 7,18,244 electorate in the State 97.37 per cent are covered under EPIC, officials of Election department disclosed during the National Voters� Day celebration here today.

Inaugurating the programme, Governor Gen (Retd) J J Singh exhorted the voters to make universal adult franchise a reality by generating awareness regarding people�s voting rights and importance of effective participation in election process.

�Let us pledge to inculcate sense of participation in the governance in minds of the people and it will be our real contribution towards democratic ideals of our constitution�, the Governor added.

�Be an ambassador of the Election Commission and create awareness among your friends and relatives. Take upon yourself the responsibility to ensure that every eligible member of your family, area, village or circle is enrolled,� he said.

�Even for a single voter, a polling station, namely Marambo under Anini constituency was set up in Dibang Valley district, which reflects our sincerity and unflinching commitment in maintaining the spirit of democracy�, he said adding, voting percentage in Arunachal is always high in comparison to other regions of the country. � PTI
