Environment Day observed at Dhubri, Nagaon

DHUBRI, June 5 - The World Environment Day was observed throughout Dhubri district by various organisations, educational institutions, NGOs and the district administration.

Almost all the schools and colleges observed the day by planting trees in the premises of their institutions.

The Deputy Commissioner, Dhiraj Choudhary also visited various schools to plant trees and encouraged the children towards adopting environment-friendly habits. In such a programme organised by the administration in the Dhubri Govt Girls� School auditorium, the Deputy Commissioner said, �The responsibility of saving Mother Nature is on the shoulder of every one of us. So imparting the knowledge of saving the environment among the students is a must.�

A massive plantation drive was also organised by Chetna, a socio-cultural organisation and Friends Foundation, a non-profit organisation in various schools of the district.

A plantation programme was also organised by the Bilasipara civil administration in the presence of ADC Pallav Mazumder, Civil SDO MS Laxmipriya and various other dignitaries.

NAGAON: On the occasion of the World Environment Day, a number of functions were organised here under the auspices of various educational institutions and NGOs.

On the occasion, an art competition was arranged at Iqra Academy. Students also planted trees in the school premises.

In Nagaon Govt Boys� HS School, tree plantation, model-making competition were arranged. Sadou Asam Gramya Puthibharal Santha observed the day at Dr BR Ambedkar School with a day-long programme.

Ashutosh Motors planted trees in their compound at Senchua, where retired principal JN Khound, retired teacher Subarna Goswami, proprietor of Ashutosh Motors, Bharat Chandra Goswami and others took part. They also arranged an art competition among the children.

To mark the day, Praktan ULFA Oikya Mancha planted a number of trees at Dimou near the four-lane bypass. The tree plantation programme was formally inaugurated by Sailen Saikia, president of Nagaon Press Club. Former ULFA members, Chintamani Hazarika, Sanu Phukan, Moon Kumar Bora and others took part in the plantation drive.

Later, former ULFA member Moon Kumar Bora informed that they will plant a number of trees on both sides of the four lane.
