GUWAHATI, Oct 27 - A number of items, including refrigerators, motor cars, building materials, television sets, mobile phones, etc, will become costlier in Assam as the State Government, by a notification, has increased entry tax on these items.
A government notification issued in this regard said that the entry tax on items like refrigerators, air-coolers, airconditioning plant, washing machines, geysers, Xerox and Fax machines and the components of those machines would now be increased to 10 per cent.
As per the notification, the mobile phones will also become costlier from now on. The entry tax on telecommunication equipment including mobile phones, telephones, pagers and the parts and components of such items has been increased to 10 per cent.
A host of building materials will also become costlier as the government has increased entry tax on marble, granite and other decorative slabs and articles, elevator, PVC pipes and tubes, cranes, dumpers and road rollers, all variants of tiles, sanitary ware and bathroom fittings of all types, etc.
The prices of almost all kinds of motor vehicles, apart from ambulances, will also increase. The notification said the entry tax on motor cars, motor cycles, scooters, three-wheelers, omni buses, motor vans, trucks, chassis of motor vehicles, etc, has been increased to 10 per cent.
The entry tax of other items increased include television sets (both colour and black-and-white), video cassette recorders, video cassette players, VCD players, DVD players, wireless reception instruments, radios, typewriters including electronic typewriters, photocopiers, duplicating machines, etc.
The notification said it would come into effect as soon as it is published in the official gazette.
