By Correspondent

KALAIGAON, Jan 22 - Entry of names of a few bonafide Indian citizens in the D-voters list has been resented in Udalguri district.

According to information available, one Majibor Rahman (55) son of late Mafiz Ali of village Christianpara near Paneri in Udalguri district was shocked to find his name in the D-voters list as he and his family had been living in Assam since their birth.

Family members maintained that Majibor Rahman was a bonafide Indian citizen. His name figured in the voters list of 1993 under serial No. 583 (Polling Station No. 113 at Bholabari JG School under Silpota mouza), they informed.

His name also exists in the voters list of 1989 (serial No. 529 of the said polling station). His father, late Mafij Alis name also figured in the voters list of 1965 (serial No. 4, Part No. 205 of village Ganakpara in Darrang district).

As per documents issued by the gaonburha and headmaster of Bholabari HS, the said person and members of their family have been living there since his birth. The name of his father has also been seen in the NRC legacy data.

Zulfikkar Ali, a village-level social worker told this Correspondent that the family members of such families have been facing severe financial and mental hardship due to such silly mistakes.

According to him, because of ignorance and lack of awareness among the local people, specially the Assamese Muslim community, such avoidable snags had been causing great trouble, any obviously, anxiety . He therefore requested all to create awareness among the general people regarding taking of timely steps so as to prevent such unintentional mistakes.
