Enthronement ceremony of new Tawang Monastery abbot

ITANAGAR, Feb 16 - Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Friday attended the enthronement ceremony of the new abbot of the Tawang Monastery, Gyangbung Rinpoche, in the presence of Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju, and legislators Tsering Tashi, Phurpa Tsering and Jambey Tashi.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister expressed his happiness over the enthronement of the new abbot and welcomed him to his new role and responsibility.

Khandu said the Tawang Monastery is renowned not only in the State but the world over and the enthronement of the new abbot was a significant event, which has its effect all over the world.

The Chief Minister said that the Monpa community is thankful of the role played by the monastery in inculcating peace, discipline and humility among the people. He said that due to the role of religion in the society, people in Tawang are peaceful, and that the district has a very low crime rate due to which it has a low presence of policemen numbering less than 100.

On the occasion, traditional monastic dances were performed by the local monks.
