By STAFF CORRESPONDENT

SILCHAR, Feb 15 - Cachar Deputy Commissioner Barnali Sharma today visited SM Dev Civil Hospital, along with additional deputy commissioner (health) Rajib Roy at around 8.40 am.

During her visit, the Deputy Commissioner went to the OPD, doctors chambers in the OPD, indoor patient area, wards, X-ray room, labour room, operation theatre, emergency duty room, etc. and did not find a single doctor there till 9 am, though there are 25 doctors posted in the hospital.

Even the rooms of the doctors chambers in the OPD were found locked.

Sharma even found that the OPD counter for issuing slips was not started functioning till 8.45 am during her inspection, though the OPD hours start from 8 am. Only three doctors were seen engaged for OPD hours from 8 am to 2 pm as per roster. The duty roster prepared by the superintendent of SM Dev Civil Hospital has no mention of the names and contact information of the doctors.

While expressing deep dissatisfaction during her visit to SM Dev Civil Hospital, Sharma said there are various complaints, allegations regarding non-performance of duties by the doctors during the OPD hours and some of the doctors are not even allotted OPD/IPD/emergency duties, which is not at all acceptable, she mentioned.

The deputy commissioner ordered an immediate enquiry report into the affairs of this civil hospital within 24 hrs from the joint director of Health and Family Welfare department.
