By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Aug 20 - Air connectivity between the North East and other parts of the country will get a boost as Spice Jet is all set to launch its new daily flights connecting Silchar with Kolkata and Guwahati, and Guwahati with Aizawl from October 4, 2016, said an official press release here today.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today thanked Spice Jet for enhancing its air frequency to Assam and other north-eastern states by starting new daily flight services connecting the region with other parts of the country.

The Chief Minister, while expressing his gratitude, shot off a message to the chairman and managing director of Spice Jet Ajay Singh and said, Your decision to enhance air connectivity between North East and other parts of the country will serve as a fillip to the tourism potential of Assam and other north-eastern states.

Barak Valley being a land-locked region, travelling from or to that region becomes a cause of inconvenience to the people. However, with the increased frequency of air flights, students, patients and other commuters alike will be able to experience a hassle-free movement in and around the region.

The decision to increase air services in the region will also serve as an impetus to our Prime Minister Narendra Modis assertion, who has all along been laying stress on improving connectivity in Assam and North East with other parts of the nation, which will also bolster economic development of the region, Sonowal said, adding that other airlines should also increase the frequency of their services in Assam and the North East.
