English translation of Kalaguru�s works released

TEZPUR, Feb 4 - A compilation of writings of Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rava translated into English by a group of Professors of Tezpur University and titled The Call of the Pherengadao� select writings of Bisnu Rava, was formally released at a ceremonial function recently at the council Hall of the University.

It is to be mentioned here that the book translated and edited by a group of professors of Tezpur University including Prof Madan Mahan Sharma, Prof Debarshi Nath, Prof Gautam Bora, Prof Pradipjyoti Mahanta, Prof Udayan Misra, Prof Bhubaneswar Saharia and Prof Sarat Kumar Doley is published by Katha Publication, Guwahati.

Among other dignitaries, the ceremonial function specially organised to formally release the English version of some selected writings of the �Kalaguru� was graced by the VC, Tezpur University Prof Vinod Kumar Jain, Pro VC Dr DK Saikia, son of the cultural icon Hemraj Rabha, social worker Dr Lakhi Goswami and registrar of the university Dr Biren Das.

Speaking on how the great work of translation of Bishnu Rava�s writing into English materialised, cultural activist and noted social worker Hemraj Rava expressed his gratitude towards the former VC of the University Prof Mihir Kanti Chowdhury, Dr Alok Kumar Buragohain former registrar of the University and the editors who have fulfilled the dream of executing the great work. In his speech, he also mentioned that once the manuscripts of many creations of the cultural icon got damaged. �However, because of noble initiative of some youths including Santanu Mahanta and Kamal Rashid Ahmed who always tried to understand the ideology of the great leader these damaged materials were copied newly and preserved and these have been today translated into English.� He added that we cannot end our duty only by publishing the Kalaguru�s works or writing about them, but it is our responsibility to follow the ideology of the great artist.

Dr Lakhi Goswami mentioned that it was not simply a translation of Bisnu Rava�s writings but a great initiative to highlight the great work and ideology of standing for the proletariat and working class by Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rava.

Earlier, in his welcome address, the VC of the university Prof VK Jain appreciating the efforts of the group of translators-cum-editors for taking up such a great responsibility.
