BARPETA, Jan 16 The Hindu Yuva Chatra Parishad has alleged encroachment on the land belonging to Moiramara Namati Satra, located at Itarvita under Howli Police Station and inaction of the police even after lodging of formal complaints to this effect. It also accused the Barpeta MLA, Abdur Rahim Khan of instigating the encroachers and thereby paving a smooth way for the Assembly election slated for 2016.

In a press conference at the Barpeta Press Club recently, Balen Baishya, central secretary of the Hindu Yuva Chatra Parishad alleged that 20 bighas of land belonging to the Namati Satra, situated at Itarvita has been forcefully occupied by a section of people belonging to other religious faiths.

He alleged that the Government has repeatedly failed in protecting the satra land and the HYCP will take it on its own. He warned that if any untoward incident occurs in the process of fencing the satra land, the Government will be solely responsible for it.

Baishya also informed that the Satra Management Committee has lodged a complaint with the Howli Police Station against Asar-uddin Gaonburah of Itarvita, Bulbul Hussain, Jamaluddin, Riajuddin, Mannan Ali and Anser Ali on January 11. But it is matter of regret that police has done nothing to nab the culprits. He indicated Abdur Rahim Khan, MLA of Barpeta, was instigating the miscreants and alleged that Rahim Khan being a public representative should have played an impartial role which is miserably lacking.

Baishya vehemently criticised the Government for its failure to protect satra land for which land belonging to several satras like Barpeta, Dhumarkur, Kanara, Moiramara and several others have been encroached and Namati satra is also facing a similar fate.

He demanded the Government to come out with specific effective steps to protect the satras from the clutches of encroachers.
