JORABAT, Nov 5 - Personnel from the Kamrup (M) district administration, assisted by the circle office of Sonapur revenue circle, CRPF personnel and Sonapur Police, on Wednesday evicted 13 families who were illegally occupying government land in Dhangiri (No. 2 Siyalkhaiti) village near the Digaru river under Sonapur revenue circle. Another 19 families who too are occupying government land in the area, have been directed to vacate the land within three days.

While the evicted people have claimed that they have been living there for many years, the government authorities claim they have no land documents.

The Circle Officer of Sonapur revenue circle, Munindra Nath Ngatey said that these people have migrated from other places and usually live on river banks. They do not belong here.

Regarding allegations that no prior eviction notice was given to the evicted people, the Circle Officer said that warnings were already given. Besides, no prior notification is needed to evict people from government land, he said.
