Employment top priority: CM

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, March 16 Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said that the State Government had accorded top priority on employment generation, including promotion of self-employment and entrepreneurship, for tackling the burgeoning unemployment.

Addressing a press conference, Gogoi said that skill development for vocational and technical services was a major thrust area, and that the Government would ensure that various training programmes for the purpose would percolate down to the grassroots.

Gogoi also said that for ensuring that the quota for the North-east in Army and paramilitary forces is filled up from candidates of the region, the Government was going to introduce special training. Jobs meant for the youth of the North-east in the Army are lying vacant, as we have not been able to train up our youths adequately. We will open coaching in Science, Mathematics and English for our candidates for selection in the Army as also in other Central sector jobs under the Staff Selection Commission.

The Chief Minister said that an 'entrepreneurship mela' would be held next month where Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and innovation guru Sam Pitroda would be preset.

Claiming that individual beneficiaries from different entrepreneurship schemes of the Government would exceed one lakh, Gogoi said that the area would witness further thrust by the Government.
