IMPHAL, Jan 21 - The majority Meitei community in Manipur celebrated Emoinu festival today when the Mother Goddess of peace and prosperity, Emoinu, is worshipped.
The Goddess Emoinu lands on Earth every year on the 12th of Wakching month in the Manipuri Lunar calendar and visits each home to shower her blessings, according to Meitei myth.
People performed Emoinu Eratpa ritual at home and public places by offering seasonal vegetables, fruits, traditional sweets, clothes and white fish to the deity, who is believed to be taking rest at funga lairu, the traditional fireplace in every kitchen. The residents also illuminated their homes and other places to welcome the Goddess.
