Eminent scientist to deliver talk on cancer

JALUKBARI, Nov 16 - Eminent scientist Dr Bhudev C Das of Amity Institute of Molecular Medicine & Stem Cell Research, New Delhi, will deliver a lecture on stem cell and cancer at the Department of Zoology, Gauhati University, on November 20 and another lecture on gene genomics and cancer at Pub Kamrup College, Baihata Chariali, on November 21.

Dr Das had also visited Cotton College and IIT-Guwahati a couple of months back and delivered lectures on cancer. He has made outstanding contributions in the field of cancer research, tumor virology, human genetics and mutation research. During the last 37 years of his research career, he has published more than 200 research papers in reputed international journals and earned fame as a molecular oncologist.

Dr Das did his MSc and PhD from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. He later worked for several years with Nobel Laureate, Prof Harald zur Hausen (Nobel Prize, 2008) at the German Cancer Research Centre (DFKZ), Heidelberg, and later pioneered work in India on human papilloma virus (HPV), that causes cervical and other cancers.

Dr Das is a recipient of the prestigious JC Bose National Fellowship (2008-2016). He is a member of several scientific task forces, project review committees and high powered committees and editorial board member and reviewer of several reputed national and international journals.

Prof Jogen Ch Kalita, coordinator of the GU lecture session, said it will be attended by students, research scholars and faculty members of different departments of GU, IIT-G, colleges and also scientists from IASST Boragaon, Dr B Borooah Cancer Institute and North East Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Jorabat.
