GUWAHATI, June 4 - Former international Assam swimmer Elvis Ali Hazarika swam 29 kilometres in the 34-kilometre English Channel yesterday.
As updated in his Facebook account, he swam 10 hours and 15 minutes non-stop and finally had to give up as per the advice of his doctor as the water was too cold to continue (12 degree C). Elvis started his journey at 6.30 am (IST).
He is the first swimmer from the entire Northeast to swim 29km in the English Channel. He was preparing for this venture for the last five years and finally got the opportunity yesterday. His coach was Fedrick Marshmei.
