Elephants death at Behali RF decried

By Correspondent

BISWANATH CHARIALI, April 23 - Several social organisations and local people have strongly criticised the alleged negligence of the State Forest department which led to the death of a wild tusker near the Behali reserve forest in Biswanath district.

According to information available here, a wild elephant which had borne gun shots on its head, died at Kulaguri Pathar on Friday after wandering here and there for the last couple of days. The Forest department allegedly did not take any action to provide medical assistance to the severely injured elephant that had reportedly received gun shots from suspected poachers in the reserve forest.

It needs mention here that remains of two wild elephants were found inside Behali Reserve Forest a few days back. Rajgarh Parivesh Unnayan Samiti, Uddipta Chora, Behali KMSS and Behali Tai Ahom Yuva Parishad have demanded a high-level inquiry into the incident and stern action against the guilty persons responsible for the death of the wild elephant.
