Election campaign materials seized in Karimganj for violating MCC

Silchar, March 20: In a major development ahead of the Assembly elections in the State, the Karimganj district administration has confiscated unauthorised campaign materials.

In a release issued to the media from the DIPR office in Karimganj , the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) cell in- charge Additional Deputy Commissioner James Aind and CO Tridip Roy confiscated 36 banners and 6 vehicles of two candidates in North Karimganj constituency on Friday. Accordingly, three such vehicles have been seized from Patharkandi constituency by the concerned CO Sanju Das and 57 illegal banners have been seized from Badarpur constituency by the concerned CO Devajyoti Gogoi.

The release further mentioned that the Civil administration has directed all concerned persons to seek prior permission for campaign vehicles. Moreover, the campaign materials should bear the names of the printing houses as well as those of the publishers.

It has been informed on behalf of the administration that the vehicles or campaign materials not having the required permission will continue to be seized. On behalf of the MCC cell it has been made clear that if any such illegal campaign materials or vehicles are spotted hereafter will invite strong action according to the Election Commission of India guidelines, the release stated.
