Elders thank Gogoi for enhancing pension

GUWAHATI, Jan 1 � The Assam Senior Citizens� Association expressed thanks to the Chief Minister, Assam for enhancing State government�s contributions towards pension for BPL elderly persons from the existing amount of Rs 50 to Rs 1,000.

The president of the association DN Chkravartty in a statement appealed to the Chief Minister not to allow political considerations at lower levels for selecting beneficiaries for the pension. He said that a large number of deserving persons have so far been deprived in different areas of the State, from getting the pension; he suggested that government should recognise only those beneficiaries whose names are recommended by local senior citizens association.
