Elders mourn Sailen Medhi�s death

GUWAHATI, July 13 - The Octogenarians� Club of Guwahati has described eminent advocate and Leftist leader Sailen Medhi, who passed away recently, as an outstanding public leader and a dedicated social activist who contributed immensely towards the betterment of lives of the people in general and the working class in particular.

The president of the Octogenarians� Club, Prof Mahesh Bhuyan, and secretary DN Chakravartty, in a statement, paid condolences to the bereaved family and referred to the close association of Medhi with the club since its inception four years ago. As a regular participant in the club�s sittings, Medhi used to inform the members about the hardships underwent by communist workers both during the time of the British rule and during the days of freedom.

Medhi, who was also a strong advocate of Assam�s socio-economic advancement, participated in all the movements of Assam for the cause of general advancement of the people and acquisition of justice from the Government of India.
