Elderly lady attacked by young woman, hospitalised

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Oct 14 - In a shocking incident, an elderly woman received grievous head injuries when she was attacked in her Sixmile residence by a woman who introduced herself as someone hailing from the native village of the victims husband.

Anjana Dutta, wife of a retired Director of the Assam Agriculture University, Khanapara, was hit on her head with a hammer, following which she was immediately rushed to a hospital where received multiple stitches on her head.

The victims family immediately lodged a complaint at the Dispur Police Station alleging an attempt to murder and robbery, identifying the femme fatale as one Debangshi Bhuyan, and accusing her of belonging to a gang of criminals.

Although the police have obtained several details about the attacker, the woman remains untraceable. The police, however, said that they have traced her address.

The incident took place on October 10 around 5.30 pm, when Debangshi, in her mid-20s, arrived at the Duttas residence and said she had come to invite them to her marriage. After an hour of conversation, Anjana Dutta asked her to leave as she was uncomfortable with her questions relating to jewellery and her insistence that the jewellery designs be shown to her.

As Anjana Dutta approached the main door to open it for Debangshi, the lady was struck with a hammer multiple times on the back of her head. She fell on the floor with blood gushing out.

Luckily, my mother could still scream, which scared her off and she started running downstairs, said Rupashree Dutta, daughter of the victim, recounting the horrific incident. Rupashrees father, who was in another room (the girl was unaware that he was home) came out and was too shocked to react. His tenants, however, saw the woman fleeing and caught hold of her, yet she managed to escape.
