Eid-ul-Zuha today

GUWAHATI, Aug 11 - Eid-ul-Zuha or Bakrid, the holy festival of the Muslims, will be celebrated in the State along with the rest of the country tomorrow. Also known as Eid-ul-Adha, the festival is marked by the sacrifice feast that commemorates the event when Prophet Mohammad�s faith was tested by the Almighty, and a goat was sacrificed in place of his own son.

The city has geared up for the celebrations with the mosques and Idgah maidans getting decked up for the purpose.

The occasion is also marked by charity, as people help the poor and needy.

At many places, cultural functions will also be organised in the evening, adding to the festive spirit.

Meanwhile, Governor Jagdish Mukhi and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal have greeted the people of the State on the holy festival of Islam. They said the festival will strengthen the bond of peaceful coexistence among the people and make the State an epitome of peace and harmony.

The All Guwahati Students Union has also extended its best Eid wishes to the people.
