By Staff Correspondent

SILCHAR, Dec 14 - Deputy Inspector General, (Southern Range) Dilip Kumar Dey has urged people of the region including media persons to act as change agents in restoring peace.

Having joined as the new DIG (SR), Dey interacted with the media fraternity of Cachar on Friday at the conference hall of Cachar SP. During the interaction, the DIG made it clear that any undemocratic effort by any organization, party or individual to disturb peace and communal harmony here during such a volatile and sensitive situation across the State shall be dealt with iron hands.

In this country, everyone has the right to express views within democratic boundaries. However, if anyone oversteps the democratic lines and attempts to destabilize peace, stern action would be taken against the violators, the DIG maintained.

Asked about the situation on the international and inter-State borders along Barak Valley, DIG Dey assured that there is no major issue along the international border with Bangladesh and added that vigil is being maintained by both the State police and the BSF. He was quick to add that the police is in constant touch with its counterparts regarding inter-State borders with Manipur, Meghalya, Mizoram and Tripura.

the newly-joined DIG urged upon the media persons to report fact-based stories so that sensationalism and violence could be averted and peace could be established at the earliest.
