Educationist Kokil Bezboruah passes away

NORTH GUWAHATI, Oct 27 - Kokil Ch Bezboruah, a well known radio news reader of yesteryears, a historian and litterateur a former head of the department of history in Pragjyotish College, Guwahati, breathed his last at his daughter�s residence at Bharalumukh on Sunday due to old-age ailments. He was 92.

Late Bezboruah, son of late Mukunda Bezboruah and younger brother of late Narayan Bezboruah was a multifaceted genius like his elder brother and helped in the birth of North Guwahati College in 1962 by serving as its founder principal. He was also the founder principal of a Mangaldai-based commerce college which he joined after his retirement from Pragjyotish College.

Late Bezboruah earned popularity as a news reader in Assamese from AIR, New Delhi in 1948. Later, he joined a college in Nagaon and served there till his appointment in the city-based Pragjyotish College. He was also the president of history session in the Morigaon session of Asam Sahitya Sabha. He was also closely associated with NCC as a commander for a few years.

His death has cast a pall of grief in the entire locality here. His wife predeceased him and he has left behind five daughters and a son.
