Educational competitions for students organised

DIPHU, Aug 22 - A daylong educational competition programme was organised here on Sunday at Howraghat Town Girls High School (HTGHS) under the aegis of the Howraghat Aryabhatta Science Centre (ASC), Howraghat block with the support of Assam Science Technology and Environment Council (ASTEC), Guwahati.

Altogether 150 students from 15 different educational institutions under Howraghat block participated in the competitions organised on science-based model making, extempore speech and poster drawing.

Altogether 10 students each from the 15 schools took part in the daylong programme. The programme began with the hoisting of the flag of Aryabhata Science Centre by Bipul Chnadra Deb, president, ASC, Howraghat Block at 9:30 am. The competition was inaugurated at 10 am by Noni Gopal Bordoloi, ex-president of NCSC.

Subsequently, a science-based video film was shown to the student participants at 12 noon. A prize distribution ceremony was also organised in which Tarun Chandra Handique, retired headmaster of Howraghat Town Girls High School and ex-president of ASC, Howraghat Block; Pankaj Hazarika, principal, Howraghat Higher Secondary School; Bhabesh Rajbongshi, headmaster, HTGHS; Ganesh Bhatt, headmaster, Howraghat English Medium High School (HEMHS) and Bhabananda Khakhlary, District Coordinator of ASC were present.

It may be mentioned here that the students who exhibited good performance in events like model making, extempore speech and poster drawing were awarded certificates and cash prizes by invited guests.

Subrata Roy of Sankardev Vidya Niketan, Howraghat, Tanu Basumatary, Rajina Swargiary of HTGHS and Sarhuru Engti, Raju Das of HEMHS won the first, second and third positions in the science-based model making competition.

Rekha Rabha of Dengaon High School, Priyanka Borgohain of Sankardev Vidya Niketan, Howraghat and Autri Kro of National School won the first, second and third positions in the extempore competition respectively. In poster drawing competition, Boron Bey of Dengaon High School, Arindom Bora of Sankardev Vidya Niketan, Howraghat and Abhishek Phonglosa of Srimanta Sankardev Vidyalaya, Howraghat won the first, second and third positions.
