Education is prime mover of society: CM

By The Assam Tribune

GUWAHATI, Jan 22 We should aim at providing education to the disadvantaged and poorer segments of the populace. Then only a society or a State can move ahead on all fronts, said chief minister Tarun Gogoi at the laying of foundation stone of Royal Global School under the aegis of Gyan Sagar Foundation (GSF) at Betkuchi on the outskirts of Guwahati, an official release said.

Gogoi said the government has given added thrust to education and has taken up a slew of programmes towards this end. Education is the prime mover of a society without which no progress is possible. That is why our government has accorded top priority to education, he said.

Emphasising on imparting the right type of education, the chief minister said, Education has to be in tune with the times. We have to impart education that is tailored to the needs of the society and can help in solving problems plaguing it, he said.

Lauding the efforts of the Royal Group of Institutions (RGI) for its latest endeavour to open a global school, Gogoi said that the government would like to go in a big way with corporate houses for setting up quality educational institutions in the State. Our government is exploring the possibility of setting up of a corporation to fund education in a big way. We want more engineering, medical, technical and other institutions to come up in the State. We want each and every section of the society to reap the fruits of education. Then only unrest, feeling of deprivation will evaporate, he said.

The chief minister appealed to the corporate houses to join hands with the government to bring about a sea change in the education sector in the days ahead.
