DERGAON, Oct 4 - At a time when a section of educated youths are running after only cushy government jobs, a youth from Molaikumar Gaon in Missamara, 7 kms off Dergaon town, has set an example of self-employment with bamboo and canecraft goods.
Nipun Hazarika (39), started his venture in 2010 despite financial constraints. After passing the higher secondary examination, he started his venture as a cottage industry. Talking to this Correspondent, Nipun said that despite financial hardship, he plans to diversify his activities in the near future by engaging more hands along with the required machinery.
�As the Assamese people are culturally sensitive and have a highly developed aesthetic taste, so the goods produced are often grabbed by the customers almost instantaneously, so much so that I am not able at times to keep up to their demands with my limited stock. Shortage of manpower and raw material are to be blamed for such a situation� Nipun confided.
�However, if I get some financial support from the government under any welfare scheme, I can definitely increase production by employing more youths,� he said. It may be mentioned that his products are widely popular among the customers of online shopping too.
The vice-president of leading nature organisation AASHRAY, Prasenjit Khound said as the products of Nipun are eco-friendly in nature, hence the government should patronise his cottage industry.
�The artisan may be encouraged by the government under any plan of Skill India,� he observed.
Bedanta Baruah, a customer of his products said that Nipun�s skill should be aptly honoured by the government as an encouragement to boost his morale. He also urged the Golaghat Deputy Commissioner to look into the matter and make Nipun a beneficiary of some suitable government welfare scheme.
