ED grills Riniki in Saradha scam probe

By The Assam Tribune

KOLKATA, Feb 17 Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, wife of former Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, was today grilled by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) here in connection with the multi-crore Saradha scam, reports PTI.

Sarma was questioned on the business deals which she had entered into with Sudipta Sen, chief of the tainted chit fund group, and was asked to submit details of the transactions, an ED official told PTI.

She owned some TV channels in the North East and had taken money from the Saradha group to air advertisements, the official said.

According to the official, the ED wants to verify whether money was paid by the Saradha group without actually airing those advertisements in their entirety or not.

Sarma was earlier questioned by the CBI, which is also probing the scam.

The Special Crime Branch of CBI will file a supplementary chargesheet by this week, a source in the investigating agency said.

We are going to file a supplementary charegsheet in the Saradha Realty case at the Alipur Court by this week, the CBI source said.

The chargesheet would include the names of Bengal Minister Madan Mitra, former Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Srinjoy Bose (now released on conditional bail), and suspended TMC MP Kunal Ghosh, among others.

The source said the supplementary chargesheet would contain names of influential persons who had been the main conspirators in the scam.

Mitra, now under judicial custody, had moved a bail petition in the Calcutta High Court, the hearing of which is yet to take place.

Earlier, the agency had filed chargesheets against the other accused in the scam, namely Sudipta Sen, Debjani Mukherjee, Rajat Mazumdar (now released on conditional bail), Sadananda Gogoi, Debabrata Mazumdar and Kunal Ghosh in separate cases related to other Saradha companies.

Meanwhile, ED sources said that it would also file its chargesheet once the CBI files its supplementary chargesheet. PTI
