Economic blockade against Nagaland temporarily suspended

By Staff Correspondent

JORHAT, Nov 24 - As a goodwill gesture, various organizations that have been imposing an economic blockade against Nagaland at the New Sonowal BOP near Assam-Nagaland border at Mariani-Mokokchung Road since November 15 have temporarily suspended the blockade for 36 hours from 6 am of Wednesday.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Khanindra Das, who is holding charge as the Titabar Sub-divisional Officer (Civil), told this newspaper that leaders of several organizations that were carrying on an economic blockade against Nagaland have decided to withdraw the stir from 6 am of November 25 till 6 pm of Thursday as a goodwill gesture in view of Deputy Commissioner and SP level meeting of Jorhat and Mokokchung districts scheduled to be held on Wednesday at Jorhat to discuss the ongoing inter-State boundary stand-off between the two States.

It may be mentioned here that tension flared up at the inter-State boundary since November 10 following construction of a hut-like structure reportedly by Mokokchung (Nagaland) administration within the Dissoi Valley Reserve Forest under Mariani range of Jorhat Forest Division and then stationing armed Nagaland policemen.

Responding to the situation, the Assam Police too, on November 11 had put up a temporary camp near the spot where Nagaland policemen were camping in order to prevent any further encroachment by Nagaland side.
