ECI issues notification for Arunachal bye-poll

ITANAGAR, Oct 26 - Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday issued an election notification for Hayuliang Assembly constituency in Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh which fell vacant after the demise of former Chief Minister Kalikho Pul on August 9 last.

The last date of making nominations for the bye-election is November 2. Date of scrutiny of nominations is November 3, while the last date of withdrawal of candidatures is November 5. The poll will be held on November 19, while the date for counting of votes has been fixed on November 22. The notification also said the date before which election shall be completed is November 24.

Meanwhile, the Anjaw district administration has made all preparations for conducting a free and fair bye-election in the constituency.

The State�s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), who had a meeting with Anjaw District Election Officer (DEO) and Superintendent of Police to review poll preparedness at Nirvachan Bhawan here on October 24, directed the DEO to set up few polling stations with women polling personnel only.

Total number of electorate in the district (which has only one constituency, Hayuliang) is 11,003, including 5,495 males and 5,508 females. Of the total of 81 polling stations, three � Kibitho, Aphumna and Taflagam � are located along the China border. While the Hayuliang polling station has the highest number of electors (955), the polling station with the lowest number of electors (2) is Malogam.

Electoral photo identity cards (EPIC) shall be the main document for identification of a voter as 100 per cent EPIC coverage has been achieved there, according to a communiqu� from DJ Bhattacharjee, Deputy Chief Electoral Officer.
