EC accused of bias in Jalukbari LAC

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, March 28 Independent candidate for Jalukbari Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC) Promod Chandra Saikia today sent a complaint to the President of the country alleging that the Election Commission (EC) and other election department authorities have turned a deaf ear to his complaints concerning the Jalukbari LAC-related irregularities on election matters.

In his complaint, Saikia alleged that the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Kamrup (Metro) has been imposed upon the Jalukbari LAC candidates as the District Election Officer (DEO), despite the constituency belonging to a different district with its headquarters located at a place outside the area of the Kamrup (Metro) district.

He also alleged that the Congress candidate for the LAC has been misusing a private TV channel owned by his (Congress candidates) wife. Moreover, the Congress candidate is misusing the office of the Rudreswar Gaon Panchayat. The number of posters printed by the Congress candidate has also exceeded the figure he has announced.

Thus, Saikia said, the Congress candidate of the LAC has violated the code of conduct of the EC. Though all these facts have been brought to the notice of the EC, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) and the District Election Officer (DEO), no step has so far been taken to discipline the Congress candidate and also to remove the anomaly in matters of the appointment of the DEO, Saikia alleged.
