Easter celebrations in NE

TURA, April 24 � Easter vigil at midnight and service at break of dawn were the main events that took place to usher in the celebration of Easter Sunday, the resurrection of Lord Jesus Christ. The celebration of Easter concludes the season of sacrifice.

Easter celebrations were marked in churches of various Christian denominations from Saturday night onwards.

Easter Vigil began shortly after 9 pm on Saturday and the lighting of the sacred candle in all the Roman Catholic churches. The Bishop of Tura, Rev Andrew R Marak, led the vigil at the Cathedral Church here while Rev Fr Thomas Mankin led the faithful in celebrating Easter Vigil at the Sacred Heart Church.

Easter vigil is also an occasion for young children and even adults to partake in baptism.

Easter celebrations were marked with a special sunrise service at the Tura Baptist Church. A large number of devotees took part in the sunrise service.

Easter Sunday was also marked with family picnics at several river banks of Garo Hills.

PTI adds: Easter Sunday was today celebrated all over the Christian-dominated State of Mizoram where prayer and worship services were held in almost all the places of worship.

The Salvation Army band parties heralded the day by playing �He has arisen� in many places in Aizawl and other places while the Catholic church members broke their fast to celebrate the Easter.

Other church denominations also celebrated the day by distributing �Easter eggs� and having prayer and worship services.
